Sumario: Dietary supplementation with bioactive compounds has been widely investigated in the sports context due to its potential ergogenic effects. Among these compounds, green coffee bean extract (GCBE) has gained attention due to its high content of chlorogenic acids (CGAs), which are associated with antioxidant, anti-inflammatory, and metabolic regulatory properties. However, despite consistent evidence regarding metabolic outcomes, studies evaluating its effects on neuromuscular performance remain limited. The aim of this study was to evaluate the effects of acute GCBE supplementation on muscular strength and power performance in physically active young adults. This was a randomized, double-blind, crossover study in which participants ingested 800 mg of GCBE (50% CGAs) or placebo, with a washout period between conditions. Neuromuscular performance was assessed using isokinetic dynamometry, including peak torque, mean power, and fatigue index of knee extensors and flexors. The results showed no significant effect of supplementation on muscle strength variables for both extensors and flexors (p > 0.05). Peak torque values remained stable across GCBE and placebo conditions throughout the testing sessions. Similarly, no significant differences were observed for mean power and fatigue index between experimental conditions. However, a significant time effect was found for mean power (p = 0.027) and fatigue index (p = 0.046), regardless of supplementation. In conclusion, acute GCBE supplementation does not improve neuromuscular performance in physically active young adults, suggesting that its ergogenic effects are not evident under acute conditions for strength and power-related variables.
