Sumario: This study, grounded in a youth-centered perspective, seeks to subvert the statistical and hierarchical logic of academic research by approaching what young people actually live and think, valuing their narratives, practices, and interpretations of themselves and the world. In this sense, the research aims to analyze whether Slam, as a cultural and leisure practice, contributes to processes of youth protagonism and social emancipation among Black youth living in the periphery of Vitória, Espírito Santo, Brazil. Based on the concepts of emancipation, self-emancipation, emancipatory thinking, and their relationship with social emancipation, the study understands emancipation not as an isolated legal act or a purely individual exercise of autonomy, but as a political and social process marked by disputes, tensions, and transformations in the ways power, freedom, and the human condition are understood. This is a qualitative study that, through Content Analysis (Bardin, 2016), examines poems produced by four slammers and, through interviews with these artists, analyzes their perceptions of youth protagonism and social emancipation among Black youth. The results indicate that Slam is understood as a leisure practice that challenges inequalities and produces possibilities for social emancipation. By articulating leisure, education, politics, and cultural expression, the practice promotes the circulation of affects, knowledge, and transformative experiences, especially among Black and peripheral youth. Thus, the movement challenges structural inequalities and offers new possibilities for belonging, autonomy, and youth protagonism.
