Sumario: Sport is currently a business that employs millions of people, generates a large amount of financial resources, serves as a political instrument and affects the quality of life of many individuals. As a result, the management of sports institutions acquired prominent importance, which led to the need for management to be carried out by competent professionals capable of catalyzing excellence in the sports and administrative fields. When we analyze the context of Brazilian sport, Artistic Gymnastics (AG) can be considered the modality that has shown the one of the greatest growths and national development in recent years and, for there to be continuous and effective development of the sport, it is necessary and fundamental that sports administration be professional. Given this, the present study aimed to describe and analyze the profile of managers who run state gymnastics federations in Brazil, in addition to understanding their motivations, the challenges faced in the daily life of administrative entities and the particularities of federation management. For this, a descriptive-exploratory study was carried out, in addition to field work with the current presidents of the state Gymnastics federations or, in their absence, by their respective vice-president. Data were collected through a semi-structured interview and, for their analysis, Bardin`s Content Analysis was selected, which has coding, categorization and inference as steps. The results of the study showed that mostly women ocupy the management roles at the federations, with an average age of approximately 54 years, mostly graduated in Physical Education and all with previous involvement with gymnastics, who perform their functions voluntarily. In addition, the managers presented intrinsic and extrinsic motivations both for entering and remaining in the position. Within the results about the management of the federations, the main demand of the managers is the general organization of the federation as in arranging events, bureaucratic processes, among others. Finally, the biggest challenges faced by managers are the lack of government support and lack of professional training, while the most strengths were the professionals involved in the federation and also government support.
