Summary: This essay has as its target comprehend the body, from the clients of an exclusive fitness center for women on the country of Vitória/ES. More specifically, this research investigates the relationship established between the students and the daily and methodologic dinamic in this fitness center, the care and the speeches of the students on the body, beauty, health and influence of consumer products and services in this process. The research evolved through the participating observations at Contours Fitness Center, originating from a network of international franchises, in addition, semi-strctured interviwes were conducted with the students , the owner and the teacher physical education. The theoretical dialogue of the work favored some elements of Gilles Lipovetsky approach to the contemporany contexto and the characteristics of modern woman, at the some time, we rely on his contributions to reflect and talk on the elements that underlie female body. Among the consideration outlined in the dissertation, we identified the researched fitness center has equipaments, training and personal assistence, besides to adopt a methodolody that does not favor the interaction/socialization among the students. Their profiles are similar to the characteristics of contemporany woman, according to Lipovetskys approach, especially as regardes their entry into the world of work, the devitalization of the ideal of housewife and certain bodily autonomy. The comprehension of respondentes about the body are close to the ideals of universalized body, a pattern that involves low fat and muscle definition. The beauty is related to emotional wellness, but at the same time, there is a great physical and finantial investment in relation to body care.
