Summary: This study aimed to understand the elements that give visibility and invisibility to funk within a school environment. In order to achieve this goal, a field research was conducted in a school located in the outskirts of Serra (Espírito Santo, Brazil). Following an ethnographic approach, data were collected through direct and indirect observations, records in field journal and semi-structured interviews. These procedures were used with the central research subjects, namely the students and teachers. The results showed the existence of conflicts and obstacles within the investigated school regarding its relation with funk.
