Summary: Cariacica is one of the largest municipalities in the state of Espírito Santo in terms of territorial size and also features a significant number of favelas and peripheral communities, according to the Instituto Brasileiro de Geografia e Estatística (2022). This study investigated the neighborhood of Rio Marinho, located in the municipality's Region Five. It aimed—through the cartographic approach proposed by Gilles Deleuze and Félix Guattari (1995), as well as the practice of walking discussed by Rodrigues and Fiorin (2023)—to map the neighborhood using photographs to identify the public spaces and facilities available for residents' leisure. The results revealed that Rio Marinho lacks infrastructure in several aspects, such as urban mobility, environmental conditions, and leisure spaces. To compensate for the absence of leisure equipment and spaces that should be provided by the government under the "right to the city" and the 1988 Brazilian Constitution, social projects developed by the community itself stand out, such as Projeto Baixada Legal and the sociocultural activities promoted by the residents’ association, Asmorim. In addition, the Primary Health Care sector (UBS) and the Social Assistance sector (CRAS) promote physical activities for children, youth, and adults. In this context, it is evident that the Municipal Department of Sports and Leisure of Cariacica has not fully fulfilled its role, especially regarding the municipal organic laws that should guarantee the right to leisure and sports access.
