Summary: This thesis aims to analyze and understand the educational trajectory and intellectual production of the members of the Coletivo de Autores (1992) in relation to the continuities and discontinuities established with the ideas initially presented in the book Metodologia do Ensino da Educação Física, and how these were developed through their academic-professional trajectories over forty years of activity in the sociocultural and pedagogical subfield of Brazilian Physical Education. Adopting a quantitative-qualitative approach, the study establishes a dialogue between historiographical perspectives and concepts (Ginzburg, 1989; Bloch, 2001; Sirinelli, 2003) and bibliometric studies (Santos; Kobashi, 2005; Hayashi, 2013). The sources used include the two editions of the book Metodologia do Ensino da Educação Física (Coletivo de Autores, 1992; Castellani Filho, 2009) and the Lattes curricula of the four most prominent intellectuals who comprise the collective, namely: Celi Nelza Zulke Taffarel, Valter Bracht, Lino Castellani Filho, and Carmen Lúcia Soares. Chapter I, of an introductory nature, presents the contextualization and motivations for investigating the research object, the theory and method underpinning the analyses, and the organization of the study’s presentation. Chapter II conducts a critical documentary analysis (Bloch, 2001) of the two editions of Metodologia do Ensino da Educação Física, seeking to capture the clues and signs (Ginzburg, 1989) that make it possible to understand the motivations that enabled the members of the Coletivo de Autores (1992) to unite around the publication of the book. In the four subsequent chapters, the intellectual production of Celi Neuza Zulke Taffarel, Valter Bracht, Lino Castellani Filho, and Carmen Lucia Soares is analyzed, respectively. These analyses take as reference the following bibliometric indicators: (1) publications by document type; (2) temporal distribution of publications; (3) authorship and co-authorship relations; (4) reference literature; and (5) themes addressed in the publications. Based on the results, the thesis hypothesis was confirmed, since, despite some dispersed experiences— especially those related to the production of Celi Taffarel—there was no development of a methodology in fact, leaving it to the academic community to present its experiences based on the initial writings of the Coletivo de Autores (1992), as has been done over more than thirty years since the publication of the work.
