Summary: Recently, Brazil hosted the biggest sporting events in the world, the Rio 2016 Olympic and Paralympic Games. Historical landmark of world sport, for the first time the Games were held in a South American country. This feat provided visibility on the Olympic theme never achieved in Brazil before. Although previous studies carried out in Europe have shown that the involvement of young people with competitive sport and sports competitions that emulate Olympic competition has effects on their attitudes towards sport, little is known about the effects of this Olympic cycle on knowledge and attitudes of young students in contact with the school sports competitions regarding the Olympic Movement (OM). Based on these assumptions, this study sought to investigate the levels of knowledge about OM and its values among student-athletes participating in the Espírito Santo School Games (Jees). The locus of the research was the final stage of the Jees, held in the city of Guarapari - ES, which brought together the winning schools of the regional ones spread throughout the state. We used a semi-structured questionnaire answered by two athletes from all participating school teams, totaling 170 questionnaires. After analyzing the responses of student-athletes, we list the following categories: (a) The level of contact of the subjects with the OM, (b) conceptual dimension of the OM, (c) symbolic dimension of the OM, (d) historical dimension of the OM and (e) dimension on attitudes and values in sport. We found that student-athletes were involved in the Olympic Games in two ways: through television media and social networks, and contact through the school, along with the disciplines and / or interdisciplinary projects that discussed this subject within the school. This demonstrates the complementary and non-exclusive character of the sources of information and knowledge. We note that the profile of student-athletes participating in the Jees is established by knowing the Olympic symbols, rituals and values in a more comprehensive and generic way. On the other hand, with regard to the historical dimension (facts and dates), the study subjects demonstrated low knowledge, which we understand to be associated with the little utilitarian value of this type of information for them. Olympic athletes can play an important role in forming values in young people. Therefore, we conclude that there is a positive attitude towards sports competition, demonstrated by the agreement with the declared values of the sport. We consider the experience of participation of student-athletes in school competitions that emulate the symbolism of the Olympic Games as something positive, which indicates the educational potential of the sport, even if it is of competition, even in the evaluative dimension.
