Summary: This research analyzes the guidelines for the practice of Physical Education teachers, published in the periodical press of teaching and techniques (1932-1960). In a particular way, it investigates the processes with which these printed forms constitute devices of didactic-pedagogical use, contributing to its insertion and consolidation of Physical Education in the school curriculum. It assumes as reference the theoretical-methodological assumptions of Cultural History (CHARTIER, 1990; BLOCH, 2001; CERTEAU, 2002; GINZBURG, 1986). In order to select the sources, he read the titles of the articles present in Ferreira Neto et al. (2002) and to examine the forms and contents of those materials. The focus in the process of delimitation of the documental corpus was in texts directed to the circulation of theories, prescriptions and didactic-pedagogical orientations in the school. The 1.783 mapped articles are thus distributed: REF (469), REPHy (985), BEF (42), RBEF (241) and AENEFD (46). The thesis has four axes of analysis, intrinsically related: 1) the struggles of representations between the editorial board of the printed, which create strategies of readers' convictions about the need to insert Physical Education in the school curriculum; 2) the dialogue of the writers to different theoretical references, conforming the materiality of the printed and announcing to the scientific practices that would later develop in Physical Education; 3) the practices of appropriation of articulists to theories of Biology, Psychology and Human and Social areas, whose purpose was to form a modern, rational and scientific discipline, expanding the role of Physical Education in society and in the educational scenario; and 4) reading devices used by writers in order to provide didactic-pedagogical prescriptions and programs for the teaching of Physical Education, contributing to their insertion and consolidation in school curricula. Based on the main findings, the thesis confirms the hypothesis that the elaboration of works with didactic-pedagogical nature is not a current specificity and that they already circulated in Brazil, in the form of the periodic press of teaching and techniques, from the beginning of the 1930s.
